The Immaculate Conception Church was established in 1804, after the return of Christians from Tippu Sultan's Captivity at Shrirangapattanam. To mark the centenary of the church in 1903, a Primary Kannada medium school was established and named as St Mary's Primary School. Thousands of children studied in this school and they are shining all over the world. Now this school has crossed 118 years. On the occasion of its centenary, to cater the needs of growing demand for Quality Education, the church management planned to open a model English Medium School. In order to provide good and qualitative education we have started with Pre-Nursery and Nursery School in 2011 and Primary was started in June 2012. The foundation stone to the new school building of St. Mary's Central School was blessed and laid by Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D' Souza, Bishop of Mangalore on 21 December 2011. The Parishioners of Kinnigoli, a strong finance committee & building committee whole heartedly supported the Founder V Rev Fr Alfred J Pinto for the cause. The 1st floor was inaugurated on 21-01-2014. Work proceeded at a faster pace. In June 2014 Rev Fr Vincent Francis Monteiro took incharge as the Parish Priest of Immaculate Conception Church who took the responsibility of the school as the Manager and supported the school towards progress. V. Rev. Fr Mathew Vas took in charge of Immaculate Conception Church on June 2018. Fr Mathew Vas passed away in October 2021. Then Monseigneur Maxim Noronha took in charge as the correspondent of the School. Rev. Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo, The Parish priest of Kinnigoli took charge as the Manager of SMCS in June 2022. He guides the school in right direction and is striving to keep up the good name of St.Marys Central School.
ST MARY'S CENTRAL SCHOOL (SMCS)...
is a CBSE English Medium School under the management of the Catholic Board of Education of the Diocese of Mangalore. SMCS started in 2012 with a record strength of 71 students in the first year, has carved its own niche in the community and has been recognized for quality education and all round development of the students. At present, the school accommodates the total strength of 1025 students from Pre-primary to X. The school is headed by the Principal, who is assisted by the staff coordinators and 40 well experienced teachers with special skills and techniques of teaching; assisted by a team of support staff.
At SMCS, emphasis is laid on the spirit of healthy competition to go forward by striving hard for excellence, thirsting for knowledge, bereft of stress and strain and without resorting to uncontrollable competitiveness. It has novel and trendy overtones embedded in traditional and conventional methodology and pedagogy which makes learning exciting and sound. SMCS intends to maintain a high standard of education by ushering innovative ideas to make the system of education conducive to all round development of the child.
